AMERICAN PAINTER - Irina Rozeal Brown

Year: 2003
Twelve different colors are used to create Brown’s hybrid Afro-Asiatic figures. These mash-ups explore the intersections between Japan's ganguro culture and black American hip-hop and fashion. Brown isn’t just a visual artist, she is a DJ too and her paintings thrum with the beat of complexity of identity.
